SELF IMAGE & SEXUALITY - with Fiona Archer

Intro

A huge thanks to Maggie Nash for inviting me on her blog today. Maggie suggested I post whatever I fancy. After asking my readers what they’d like to see here, I’ve chosen to share some of my thoughts on how our self-image affects our sexuality. It’s an integral part of my heroine’s journey in my latest book release, and I believe an issue close to many of our hearts.

Let’s face it; the idea of stripping down and standing naked in front of a lover can be scary. No, let me change that to terrifying. Our minds are conditioned to some mythical clothing size being the litmus test of our worthiness for man, society, and just about every other factor in a woman’s life.

For those of us that fall way outside that magical X classification, it can be a lonely existence, one we try to fill with food, reading, and anything else that lets us hide from that cold, unforgiving world.

Reagan Edwards, my heroine in High-Stakes Loving is, well, curvy. She believes she could lose thirty pounds and still have extra softness. That feeling of being fat, and not pretty, has held her back in some aspects of her life. She’s allowed the taunting voices of the “mean-girl brigade” during her teenage years to twist her reality of how she looks. Those jibes of “fat girl, fat girl” and the pointed stares in the gym change room crystalized from sheer rudeness to form some kind of witness statement of her unworthiness and lack of beauty.

There’s a sense of tragedy to how easily some of us allow such stupid remarks to eradicate our self-confidence in one area and yet bolster us to stand up for ourselves in another. We’ll fight for respect against a misogynistic twit in a professional setting who wants us to stay in a dead-end job because apparently a vagina means you lack intelligence. However, the idea of walking from the bed to the bathroom whilst naked and in full view of a man who professes to be in lust with us is beyond contemplating.

The fear of rejection is crippling. You put yourself out there. Then someone, a person whom you’ve allowed to get close to your heart—and maybe for all the wrong reasons, because truly they didn’t deserve such an honor in the first place—leaves you hanging on that cliff. You’re stunned, then numb, and then the need to retreat takes over. Once again, you’re hiding under your blanket of anonymity.

Luckily for Reagan, she has two Doms, Mike Langley and Quinn Sullivan, who refuse to allow her to stay hidden under that toxic shield. It’s only after they rip it away from her and force her through her personal firewall of fear and rejection that Reagan discovers that not only is she desirable, but that her very self is what gives joy and beauty to these men.

In many respects, writing Reagan’s journey was a cathartic experience for me, including her awakening of her own beauty.

It’s important to add, there is only one person who allows you to keep up a distorted view of yourself. And that’s you. So be kind to yourself. In fact, show yourself some respect and consider the idea that you have always been beautiful. You just haven’t opened your eyes wide enough to see.

Love,

Fiona

Excerpt

Mike pushed the door closed with the kind of unhurried movement that reeked of confidence. He leaned back against the wood, crossing his arms over his chest. Quinn stepped forward, hat in one hand and a black gym bag in the other.

She frowned and glanced up at his face.

“A SEAL always keeps a bag handy. Mike and I have everything we need in here.” He dropped the bag at his feet, followed by his hat.

“Everything?” She guessed he meant more than a clean shirt and deodorant.

“For tonight anyway.” Quinn stalked forward, his body now so close she had to lift her chin high to meet his gaze. “Reality-check time. I’ll ask you again. Do you want this, Reagan? Because we’re not some pansy-ass Ken doll version of Doms.” He caught her wrists and drew them behind her back, holding them there with one hand.

Her pussy throbbed. She tested his hold, wanting, no, needing to struggle. He tightened his grip. Firm. Inescapable.

Quinn used his grip to push her up against him. “You’re caught, sweetness. And that’s just a preview of things to come. We’re gonna order you about, tie you up, eat your pussy till you’re begging us to let you come, say no because that’s the kind of bastards we are, then we’re gonna eat you up all over again.” He lifted his free hand and ran his thumb over her bottom lip. “I want to discover all the ways you light up when we bury our cocks inside that warm heaven between your legs. You’ll come when we say so and not before. Defy us and you’ll be punished. Still interested?”

Dominated. Tied. Theirs.

Her mouth opened but her voice refused to cooperate.

Mike pushed off the door. “We need the words, Reagan.”

“Y-yes.”

Quinn lessened his hold until her hands fell away to her sides. Somehow, the action left her…bereft.

“Strip,” Mike ordered.

“Here, in the hallway?” They had to be kidding.

Mike’s mouth pressed down in a harsh line. But it was his cold stare washing over her like an icy bath that made her gulp.

She hurried to remove her shirt and tank top. Her fingers struggled to get a grip, as if covered in woolen mittens. Why did the guys have to stand so close?

Dragging the tank top over her head, the easy-fit cotton now impersonated skin-tight spandex, hooking on her elbows until with one hard pull, she managed to lurch free. Sexy, Reagan. With her gaze lowered, she dropped the clothing at her feet.

Thank God for front-closing bras. Her breasts spilled out. Don’t think about all that pale skin. Just hurry. They’re waiting. The white cotton joined the rest of her clothing. After toeing off her sneakers, she pulled her panties down with her jeans.

The cool air wafted over her bare skin. She shivered. There she was, naked in front of Mike and Quinn. And yet, every part of her was alive with a slow burn that kindled from deep between her legs. She moved her gaze from Quinn’s boots to her chest. The hard points of her nipples stood like beacons, screaming her arousal.

Oh, heck, her breasts. She raised her arms.

“Hands by your sides, sugar.” Quinn’s deep voice cut in.

Lowering her hands was like refusing to swim even as the water closed over her head. Her fingers twitched. A tightness filled her belly. Standing there, like a horse on display, seemed so wrong. Shouldn’t she argue back?

“We’re going to push you, Reagan. Well beyond what you’re used to from a partner. In or out of bed.” Mike tilted his head. “Have you been with a Dom before?”

“No.” Only in her dreams. This reality was so much more.

Mike walked behind her.

She forced herself not to swivel around. Look ahead. Chin up.

A line of knuckles brushed against her butt cheek.

She started. Her breasts jiggled.

Mike’s chuckle singed her ears. “Easy, sub.”

She dragged her gaze up to Quinn’s face. The heat of his stare made her stomach muscles quiver, as if he’d twirled a feather over her belly button.

“Ever been tied up?” Mike’s hand curved over her hip.

“No.” Her face heated. It seemed so foreign and carnal, talking about bondage in such a matter-of-fact way.

“Spanked?”

“N-no.” She coughed past the shag pile carpet coating her throat. “I haven’t done anything, besides, you know, normal stuff.” Two lovers at college and an ex-boyfriend in Sheridan. All missionary men, and she wasn’t talking bibles.

This time Quinn chuckled. “We’re gonna open up a whole new world for you, sweetheart.”

MONDAY MAGIC with Sage Marlowe - Romeo and Julian!

Today I welcome the incredibly talented Sage Marlowe - who's telling us all about the new Romeo and Julian series!  Welcome Sage!

***

Romeo and Julian (series) by Sage Marlowe

Hello and welcome,

My name is Sage Marlowe, I’m a multi-published MM erotic romance author and today I’m here to introduce you to my new, sexy Romeo and Julian series.

And you? You’re an FBI agent. No, really, you are. Trust me on this.
Your name is Julian Harris and you’ve recently been promoted to the head of the newly implemented Division for Art-Related Crimes. You’ve spent the best part of the past three years chasing a notorious art thief and cat burglar. You don’t know what the guy looks like, even though you’ve been studying his every move. You’ve even given him a name. Romeo. Because you know he’s charming from what little witnesses have told you. You also know that, as far as crimes go, he’s brilliant. But you have a clever mind, too, and you have figured out how to catch him.

And that’s why you spend Christmas Eve in a lonely house in the mountains, the place of his next heist. You’re waiting for him. It’s freezing cold outside, with a snow storm approaching but inside it’s warm and snug.

You’ve been there for hours, sitting and listening to every noise of the wind outside, every cracking of the wood panels around you until at last, you hear someone enter. You know it’s him; it must be him. Your heart hammers in your chest, but you force yourself to sit still and wait.
A shadowy figure crosses the room. He walks to the safe, kneels in front of it, reaches out and—
“FBI. Freeze.”

The man didn’t even startle at the sudden sharp order. Crouching in front of the safe, one hand on the lock, he obediently paused mid-motion.

“Now raise your hands.”

Julian didn’t need to repeat the order. The burglar raised his hands but kept the rest of his body perfectly still. Controlled. Tense and ready to move, not the resigned slackness of someone who had given up.

“Don’t think you can try anything now. It’s over for you. I’ve got a loaded gun in my hand that is currently pointed at your right shoulder. If you make a sudden move, I’ll pull the trigger. The bullet will smash the bone and your arm will be useless for a couple of months, maybe forever depending on what it is that you want to use it for. Now turn around. Slowly,” Julian warned and flicked on the light.
Obedient, the man turned to face him, hands still raised above his head, and for the first time ever, Julian had the chance to really see the phantom he’d been chasing all these months.

“You’re younger than I thought.”

“Disappointed?”

“No, just surprised. Good for you, though. It means that if you’re lucky, you’ll have enough years left for a chance to build yourself a life worth living by the time you get out of prison.”
The man was indeed quite a bit younger than Julian had expected him to be. He was probably somewhere in his mid-twenties rather than the late thirties or even forties that would have been more likely considering the trail he’d left and the time he must have spent to train his—admittedly admirable—set of skills to perfection.

There was a curious, almost amused expression on his face as he met Julian’s gaze levelly with a pair of striking blue eyes. Julian couldn’t help but notice that yes, he was just as attractive as the reports on him claimed, maybe even more so. The few reports they had were witness descriptions and, although the man had robbed each and every one of them, they all agreed that he was incredibly handsome and delightfully charming. Most of the females involved seemed to think that being relieved of a part of their fortune was well worth the pleasure of a flirt with him. And yet, none of those delighted ladies had been able to sit down and give a description of him that was worth wasting a drawer’s time on.

“I’m Special Agent Julian Harris, FBI. Any preference which one of your names you’d like me to use for this?”

“Pick one—I answer to all of them,” the man answered with a sly grin. The trace of an accent tinted his voice. It was hard to place, but Julian assumed it to be British. Interesting.

“Hmm, let’s see...We’ve got Brian Crandell, Greg Anderson, Richard Stavell, and Robert Dunn. Oh, and then there’s Curtis Halden of course.” Julian looked across the room into those mesmerizing blue eyes that openly mocked him. “You could always tell me your real name, you know. We’ll find out sooner or later anyway.”

“Nice try but—no. If you don’t like my aliases you can use the nickname you got for me.”

“Nickname?”

“Sure. You guys always have one.”

“Is that so?”

“I know you have. Come on, what’s mine?”

Julian gave in with a sigh. “Romeo.”

“Romeo?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Hmm, not quite what I expected, but I like it. Maybe I should create an alias using it. Mmm, Romeo Escalus perhaps. What do you think?”

“I think you won’t need another alias for quite a while. In fact, chances are you’re going to be identified by a set of figures for the years to come.”

Ah, good answer.” The thief nodded appreciatively. “I thought you would say something like that. Anyway, why Romeo?”

Julian grinned in spite of himself. Either the man didn’t realize what situation he was in or he had a rather warped sense of humor.

“You used a plain old ladder to enter through a window the first time we heard about you. You go for pretty things and never leave a woman you meet uncharmed.”

“Oh, okay. I guess I get your drift. And where does your first name being Julian fit into this?”
Julian suppressed the urge to shift his weight, knowing that it would only make him look nervous. Which he wasn’t. Much. “Just a coincidence.”

“Ah. Who came up with it?”

“That would’ve been me.”

“I’m sure the guys in your division love you for offering them that one on a silver tray.” The guy was sharp, that much was clear. Disturbingly so. Easily picking up on Julian’s embarrassment, he offered what looked like a sincere enough smile. Julian ignored it and abandoned the topic with a swift “Sure you don’t want to tell me your real name?”

“Yep.”

“Well then, we’ll just have to do it without the name for now, but just so we’re clear—you are under arrest,” Julian said sternly, forcing himself to ignore just how inviting those sinfully lush lips were that curled just a little more in a half-smile.

“I know.”

“Good. I’m going to cuff you now.”

“Oh. Just like that? Is that your idea of foreplay?”

Julian refused to pursue the image that reference created in his head and almost succeeded. At least his voice was still firm and professional as he said, “No point cracking jokes. Hands behind your back.”

About the author:

Sage is a multi-published author of gay erotic romance and loves taking romance to the edge. The edge of passion, the edge of pleasure, the edge of propriety.

Hopelessly in love with books from a very early age on, Sage has dreamt of writing one for years while working on the day job instead. It took a very persistent character in the company of a much-adored Muse to finally get the first novel going. The fact that this gorgeous guy was gay came as a bit of a surprise, but it explained a lot.

Ever since, Sage has been the willing slave to all the fascinating guys who just keep queuing up and want their stories told. This has resulted in several published books and countless manuscripts at various stages of completion, so there's always something to work on—preferably at night when the rest of the house is asleep.

Sage's characters often have a dramatic and sometimes traumatic past and need to battle some demons to be with the one they love. But don’t worry, they get quite a lot of naughty action along the way to keep them happy and there will always be a happy end!

THURSDAY TEASER: Morgan Fox's Stone Temptation

Hi folks...it's been a while since I did a Thursday Teaser, and today I have a great one!

Morgan Fox has one hot book coming out today :-)

Blurb:

[Ménage and More: Erotic Cowboy Ménage a Trois Romance, M/F/M, bondage, HEA]

Ex-marine Stone McGraw stalks into Temptation to resolve unfinished business, but nothing could prepare him for what happens next. Meeting Gracie Myles, the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, changes everything.

Deputy James Ryan spent most of his life angry about past mistakes he can do nothing about. Coming face-to-face with Gracie triggers emotions he never expected, but can’t get enough of.

For years, Gracie endured a past filled with regret and emotional darkness. Wanting a fresh start, she seeks a job with the sheriff’s office, but a new life may not be possible as her past quickly catches up to her.

A well-known drug dealer followed Gracie and is threatening everything she has come to love.

Now Gracie’s life rests in the hands of Stone and James. Can they save her from harm, put an end to their differences, and keep her from running from her past?

STORY EXCERPT

Gracie had so many worries about starting over, but mostly about people figuring out what her life had once been like. She never wanted to return to that ugly, vile place again.

“Most folks are, until they stab you in the back.”

She arched a brow. “Does that bit of advice come with personal experience?”

“Sadly, yes.” Stone’s eyes grew heavy as he reviewed the menu in front of him. “That’s why I’m here, to set things right with an old friend.”

Before Gracie could ask any more questions, Madeline returned with the teas. “Have you decided on lunch?”

“Yes, I think so,” Gracie said. “I’d like the club sandwich with fries.” She glanced toward Stone, letting him know it was his turn to order.

“I’ll have the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings.”

Gracie inwardly sighed. “Well, I guess you’re not kissing anyone tonight,” she said with a giggle. Then her gaze settled upon Stone, whose eyes were filled with wicked surprise. Gracie felt her chest tighten and her pulse race.

The desired heat within his eyes intensified as he asked, “Is there something I should know about tonight, Gracie Myles?”

Holy shit! Was he asking if she planned to kiss him as a waitress hovered beside them? Is this what honest flirting was?

“I’ll get this out in a flash,” Madeline said, turning quickly from their table.

Gracie’s mouth felt dry, and she licked her lips, looking everywhere but directly at him. “Are you done teasing me, Stone?”

He shrugged. “You’re the one who brought up kissing me.”

She sucked in a sharp breath and eyed him. “I did not!”

“Yes, you did.”

Calming herself, she explained, “I made a general statement.”

He pinched his brow tight at the bridge of his nose. “So you don’t want to kiss me then?”

She locked onto his sexy gaze, and her heart thumped hard in her chest. “Stop,” she demanded, lowering her voice as to not draw attention. Her entire body was humming with excitement. Stone was a dangerous man. He was making her tingle just by looking at her. His teasing words had her mind racing with thoughts of sex without inhibitions.

“Stop what?” He grinned. “I’m just glad I’m not the only one.”

She crinkled her forehead. “What are you talking about?”

He licked his lips, and a crooked smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I’m glad you’re thinking about kissing me.” She started to argue until he added, “Because I can’t stop thinking about kissing you.”

Her mouth formed a small O.

“What?” he said, surprise in his deep voice. “Has no one ever made a comment like this to you before?”

She pressed her lips together and shook her head.

“Now that amazes me.” He slowly reached across the table, brushed her thick, wavy hair back from her face, and gently stroked her bottom lip with the pad of his thumb. “You’re a beautiful girl, Gracie, and you have a mouth—”

Madeline returned with a pitcher of tea. Gracie eased back in the booth, and Stone’s hand quickly fell away. Silence loomed over the table as she topped off both glasses. Gracie smiled, and it was the fakest smile she’d ever plastered on her face. She couldn’t stop wondering what Stone had been about to say. She also couldn’t stop wondering if she’d enjoy being kissed by a man who clearly wanted her. That idea alone warmed her in places that had never felt so alive.

Gracie quickly picked up her glass and took a big gulp of tea to wet the dryness that had suddenly consumed her throat. Placing the glass on the table, she met Stone’s gaze head on. “You were saying?”

He grinned wide as his gaze explored her. He started at her long fingers, trailed slowly up her arm, over the tight T-shirt that covered her now sensitive breasts, and up her neck until he finally locked eyes with her once again. “You’re beautiful, and a mouth like yours was made for kissing.”

For the first time in her life she was turned on because her body wanted to be. She was attracted to Stone, and she couldn’t help but blush over his directness. She instantly felt naked under his greedy stare, and she liked it.

Gracie smiled shyly and then said, “Please excuse me.” She scooted out of the booth and walked to the bathroom.

Once she was there, she leaned against the door and rested her head on the hard wood. Closing her eyes for a moment, she sighed heavily.

Stone had a way of making her blush, and that was incredibly hard to do with the experience she’d had with men. Still, there was something so different, so amazingly sensual about him that was driving her wild. She took a few moments to gather herself, splashing some cool water on her face.

As she returned to the table, the aroma from Stone’s cheeseburger filled her nostrils. The scent was mouthwatering as was the sight of him studying her as she sat back down in the booth.

“Here you go,” Madeline said, placing their meals in front of them. “Anything else I can get for you?”

Gracie suddenly realized she needed directions to the nearest lodgings. She wasn’t likely to hang out in the diner all night, and who better to ask than a local? “Yes, actually, where is the nearest hotel?”

Stone choked on his tea, and his eyes widened.

Adult Excerpt:

He cupped the side of her face while his other arm stayed securely wrapped around her waist, keeping her locked in close to him. “I dreamed about you like this, and when I saw you heading this way, I only prayed it wasn’t my imagination.”
She narrowed her eyes. Sudden warmth filled her heart. “You fantasize about me?”
He smiled softly and admitted, “Every night. I can’t get you out of my head, Abby. I want you. I want you so damn much.”
No one had ever dreamed about her before. No one had ever said the things he said to her. The tone he used truly made her want to believe he meant every word. She had a desperate need to believe him. Maybe, if he kissed her, she could feel the difference between meaning it and just another lie. She was accustomed to identifying lies. Maybe, she could allow one little, harmless kiss between them to satisfy her curiosity.
     Sighing, she whispered, “Kiss me.”
Tyler’s gaze danced between her lips and eyes. His hand caressed the side of her face. Then slowly, he dipped his fingers into the damp strands of her hair and his mouth captured hers.
Instantly, her arms wrapped around his shoulders and neck, and her legs rose up to wrap around his waist. The need to keep him from breaking the kiss became more alarming than her need to breathe.
So much for a harmless kiss…
Drowning in desire, she opened for him as his tongue plundered the depths of her mouth. His wild, cinnamon flavor had her tongue and lips burning for more. She was practically drinking him up.
The hand that had once cradled her face was now tenderly massaging the underside of her breast. Groaning from the possession of his mouth on hers and his hands on her body, her nipples hardened further. A wild shiver shot through her as his thumb danced over the hardened tip. Gripping her waist, he raised her out of the water enough to suckle her breasts, sucking and gently tugging at her nipples. Her eyes rolled back in her head as she arched her back, pressing her breasts out for his exploration.
She threaded her fingers through his hair, cradling him against her as his lips trailed sweet kisses over her ribs, until he closed his warm mouth over the aching peak. Tugging gently on her hard nipple with his teeth, he languidly circled his tongue around it, swirling in a tantalizing fashion. Lowering her back down into the water, he pressed kisses along the column of her neck and jaw, and then he took possession of her mouth.
“Oh my God,” she whispered in wonder.
Grinding his hips, his hard cock rubbed over her clit and her head kicked back. “Tyler,” she muttered in a daze. “What are you doing to me?”
“I thought it was obvious,” he said, groaning.
His hands were all over her body, and his mouth and cock were a wicked tease of things to come.
She couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think. She was prepared to erupt into a full-fledged scream as he cradled her breast with his large hand, keeping her close to him as he lowered his head and sucked her other nipple between his lips.
As if testing her, he slowly trailed his fingers down her body, between her breasts, past her ribs and belly, until his fingers pressed in between the folds of her pussy. She cried out as the thick pad of his thumb circled around her clitoris, tormenting her deliciously. The last person to touch her so intimately had been herself. Having Tyler breathing heavily into her ear as he sank two fingers inside her cunt, circling her clit, had every thought fleeing her mind in a maddening rush.
Moaning, she arched her back and slowly rocked her hips, fucking his fingers. “Oh, Tyler,” she muttered breathlessly, “That feels so good.” All she could do was feel the explosion of pleasurable sensations that flooded her body.
“I’m going to come,” she cried, gripping his arms for support.
She gave a strangled moan and was clawing up his back as the first wave of her orgasm hit her. She leaned back, taking his thick fingers deeper as he moved in and out of her pussy.
Breathless and desire-drenched, she swallowed hard against the lustful needs racing through her.   She forced herself to keep from reaching down, finding his cock only to impale herself on it. Admittedly, she was desperate to feel him deep inside her, but she wouldn’t be the one to hurry the passion he aroused in her. She was determined to enjoy the momentary connection they shared.
Then Tyler grabbed her ass and hauled her right up against him, grinding his hips and cock over her sensitive pussy. She gasped as he kissed along the column of her neck and collarbone. All the while, he teased at her slick entrance with his cock.
“Abby,” he moaned in her ear. “Oh, Abby, I want you so much.”
At any moment she could’ve told him to stop, but stopping wasn’t what she truly wanted. Fucking him, riding his hard cock until he made her come with her eyes rolling back in her head was exactly what she wanted. Perhaps her sexy cowboy needed a little encouragement.
“What are you waiting for?” she whispered against his ear. Her fingers tugged at the damp strands of hair at his neck as she softly nibbled on his earlobe. She didn’t want to wait any longer. She couldn’t wait any longer.
Locking gazes with her, he reached between them and positioned his cock at her entrance and slowly thrust upward, sliding inside her. The tantalizing skill he used to enter her had her fingers digging deep into the flesh of his shoulders. Never had anyone eased inside her with such tender  patience. It had always been fast and unyielding fucks, and only one person left the bed satisfied. Not Abby.
